This image depicts bright blue newly formed stars that are blowing a cavity in the centre of a fascinating star-forming region known as N90. The high energy radiation blazing out from the hot young stars in N90 is eroding the outer portions of the nebula from the inside, as the diffuse outer reaches of the nebula prevent the energetic outflows from streaming away from the cluster directly. Because N90 is located far from the central body of the Small Magellanic Cloud, numerous background galaxies in this picture can be seen, delivering a grand backdrop for the stellar newcomers. The dust in the region gives these distant galaxies a reddish-brown tint.

This view shows several of the ALMA antennas and the central regions of the Milky Way above. In this wide field view, the zodiacal light is seen upper right and at lower left Mars is seen. Saturn is a bit higher in the sky towards the centre of the image. The image was taken during the ESO Ultra HD (UHD) Expedition.

Description

This schools package includes two fulls sets of PostcardsFromDeepSpace, plus pdf versions of them. So you have front and back if you want to put them up as a display; and you can have the pdf up on screen at the front of the classroom for whole class use. All shipped as one pack to the teacher, for use whenever each postcard fits into your curriculum. They are aimed at the 8-12 years age range.

For schools ordering the full package including the remote use licence, a three-hour Author Workshop is included.

Normally, the schools package only permits in-school display of these copyright materials. The optional remote learning licence will allow you to transmit the pdf versions of PostcardsFromDeepSpace electronically to students registered with your school in order for them to view remotely. View only – the pdfs may not be downloaded by students.

Note that this licence is only being offered for the text of the postcards – the images are the copyright of those people and organisations credited on each card and in general they are free for you to use as you wish.
